Council 5987's Southbury Visitation Program started in the fall of 1970 and the council has been visiting a cottage at the Southbury Training School monthly from September through May of each year since. The 2008/2009 year will be our 39th year of visiting a Cottage at Southbury. The members meet at the St. Jude parking lot at 6:30 PM on the last Tuesday of the month, except for December. In 2008 the Christmas party at Southbury will be held on December 23rd, leaving St. Jude's at 6:30 PM.
Council 5987 sponsors Mini Olympics - In May of 1981 the Council sponsored the first Mini Olympics at St. Joseph High School. Participants were basically from the Southbury Training School and in May of 1983 the event was moved to the Southbury Training School grounds. The May 2, 2009 Mini Olympics will be our 29th consecutive Mini Olympics. This has become a morning event, members meet at St. Jude's at 8:30 AM and are usually back at St. Jude's by 12:30 PM.
