Southbury Mini-Olympics 2010
We had a beautiful day, a spiritual start with prayer by Fr. Skip, a nice turnout by Council Knights, a few wives and family members and the Southbury Boy Scouts. Everyone was in good spirits and ready to make the Olympic events for the Southbury residents a great day of fun.
As always, thanks to Tom Pleva for coordinating this event and making everything run so smoothly.

Wheelchair Van donated to the Vets Hospital
The blessing and dedication of the wheelchair van donated by the Knights to the West Haven Veterans Hospital.
On Wednesday, December 16 a blessing and dedication ceremony was held on the grounds of the West Haven, CT Veterans Hospital for a brand new wheelchair van recently donated. The van, which holds 10 wheelchairs, was donated as a result of a two year fund raising campaign run by the Connecticut Knights of Columbus. Until the arrival of this van, only two or three wheelchair-bound veterans could be transproted at one time. This new van will now allow 10 vets to travel as a group to various events.
The fund raising campaign was led by Mr. Gary Thomas with the support of the hospital resident amputee vets. The van cost a total of $92,500 with a total of $105,000 raised. The excess funds were donated to the hosptital for the purpose of providing maintenance as the years go by.
In attendance at the ceremony were dignataries of the Knights of Columbus, the State of Connecticut, the VA Hospital and staff and veterans from various veteran groups from throuhout Connecticut. Also present were representatives of various charities, businesses and other organizations which provided donations.
The blessing was performed by the Reverend Cosmas Archibong, a Catholic Chaplain at the Hospital. The Knights of Columbus provided an Honor Guard for the veterans attending the ceremony.
