Council 5987 sponsored the regional Spelling Bee at the St. Jude's Parish Center on March 21. Ten Catholic elementary schools provided the first, second and third place winners of their school competition, plus alternates. This competition had students from the 4th, 5th and 6th grades.
Brother Mike Kavulich coordinated this event and did a very nice job. Phil White was the modertor and Tom Pleva, John Roberge and Frank Flynn were the judges.
The students who came for the competition were sharp, smart and competitive. Each one of them is to be saluted for pursuing the level of excellence they provided. Not everyone can win but the competition was keen. And we got to meet a nice bunch of kids.
